Perked coffee is boiled coffee, too easy to burn the coffee, making it bitter.
Drip pots make a smoother, better tasting coffee.
perked coffee tends to become extremely bitter after a couple of hours of keeping hot, because some of the dregs get into the pot.
Most people would prefer perked, it’s time and convenience…you know those things we don’t have time to do anymore. Drip is just more convenient and easier.
In My experience in the resteraunt business… drip coffe makers allow the water to sit with the ground beans and be able to collect more flavor, whilst perked coffee maker pretty much shoot the water though and the coffee dont collect the flavor and the aroma that a good cup of coffee should have
I prefer coffee made in an old-fashioned percolator. Drip coffee is quicker, and it’s easier to pitch a disposable filter than dealing with washing the innards of a percolator all the time. But I don’t mind the extra time and clean-up if I get a cup of decent coffee in the process.
Check resale shops and garage sales for percolators from the ’50′s and ’60′s. Make sure the cord isn’t frayed or broken. My Speed-brew percolator was a gift from a friend, but I’ve seen similar models for around $5 at Goodwill and Salvation Army.
Use a good brand of coffee and bottled water in your percolator. (Clean with water and vinegar first if there appears to be a lot of residue in the pot.) Start out with a smaller amount of coffee than the usual recommendation: a quarter of a cup produces 8 cups of medium-strength coffee. Experiment until you find the amount that makes the strength you prefer.
I think you’ll find that the older percolators make a superior cup of coffee!
The new drip coffee makers have the old percolators beat. Why is it better? Drip coffee makers are faster, much easier to use and clean.
